HONEST JOHNS WHITE

The wine, a lively blend of Ehrenfelser and Sauvignon Blanc with a hint of Viognier, is a mouthful of white peaches with a minty gnish. The tree fruit and sage aromas are classic hallmarks of the Okanagan.

ROAD 13 RIESLING

This Riesling was grown in the stone-riddled gravelly Stemwinder soils of The Gully, Road 13’s coolest vineyard site. It is blended with a little Orange Muscat grown in the sandy clays low on the Black Sage Bench side of the valley. This wine personifes Riesling – fresh, crisp, stony, and full of intense green apple and citrus fruit.

OLD VINES CHENIN BLANC

At over 40 years of age, these vines are among the oldest in BC. Their big, gnarly, beautiful old trunks are a sight to behold. The gravelly, sandy soil they grow in, called Ratnip, is a classic bit of Okanagan dirt. With its thrilling intensity and bracing acidity, this wine is a case study in balance and cellarability.

ROAD 13 CHARDONNAY

Fermented and aged in oak barrels with no apologies: the intense Chardonnay fruit needs the oak for balance. There are two keys to this wine. First, its texture, which is full bodied but refreshingand second, the grapefruit and mint flavours which can be traced directly back to the gravelly, sandy soil the vines grow in.

ROAD 13 PINOT NOIR

The grapes came from southwest facing site that consist of sand and clay. We used some Hungarian oak as well as the usual French. Average barrel age is three years, which has contributed to the delightfully supple texture of the wine. This is a light, refreshing, and eiminently drinkable Pinot Noir.

ROAD 13 MERLOT

Merlot from South Okanagan soil is Merlot that many New World regions aspire to make, but can not. Our unique combination of heat and extraordinarily long Northern Latitude days creates Merlot which is complex, pure, and structured. Grapes fromthe sandy soils on the east side of the valley contribute backbone, while the heavier soils of the Golden Mile give the wine a purity of fruit that could only come from here.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

The gravelly clays of our two Cabernet Sauvignon sites contribute blueberry tones. Appropriately composted light sands contribute “tobacco”, while the varietal itself contributes the capsicum character which, as abackground flavour, is intriguing, fresh, and delicious.

ROAD 13 SYRAH

NEW RELEASE

Syrah is a stunning success in the Okanagan, producing superbly balanced wines that are the envy of hot climate producers. Two separate Syrah clones from three separate vineyard blocks on Black Sage Bench resulted in a wine with pure fresh ground pepper aromas, strong tannic backbone, an earthy, meaty character and deep blackberry fruit flavours. The cofermentation of someViognier (a white grape!) with these Syrah lots adds delicate aromas.

ROAD 13 ZINFANDEL

The most labour-intensive wine we make, from taming vines resembling Jurassic weeds on steroids, to sorting through bursting berries rife with Botrytis, to the winemaking. The 2007 crop was small. Eight months of barrel ageing in American oak gave the wine coconut and vanilla characters to balance the raspberry flavours without losing them. The wine turned out to be so darn good, we will likely go through the same agony next year.

JACKPOT VIOGNIER

Viognier needs a hot growing location with the kind of sandy clay soil that exists on our Black Sage Bench site. Having the most bitter skins on the planet, it requires whole cluster pressing to quickly remove the juice from the skins. The exotic, hightoned tropica flavours develop only when the grapes have hung on the vines until sunburnt and brown. Only then will they have a chance to achieve our Jackpot designation.

JACKPOT SYRAH

NEW RELEASE

Black Sage Bench sand heavily fortied with steer compost makes this wine. Clone 99 gives the wine peppers, sage, and tannin, while Clone 100 provides sausages, meaty, gamey flavours, and body.
